Another absolute diamond of an event.
70 guests all came to celebrate at our Wandsworth Community Transport 4th Annual Mad Hatters Tea Party!
It was amazing to get the dream team back for the annual jewel in our charity crown – huge thank you to all who made it possible, from our Managing Director – Manuel Button and his dedicated staff team office workers and drivers alike to our incredible volunteers, to the divine Meg and all her team at our beautiful venue – Home Community Cafe for pulling out all the stops with the delicious high tea that was enjoyed by all.
And Meg, from Home Community Café said:
“Community is at the heart of what we do and it’s great once again to host the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with support from Wandsworth Community Transport and Age UK Wandsworth.”
Thanks so much to Howard on the piano, who expertly accompanied our Wandsworth Community Transport Choir in one of our Wimbledon Foundation funded, much-loved sing-a-long performances.
We loved it that @Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Jeremy Ambache joined us as guest of honour, expertly pairing his Civic Chain with a backwards facing cap, in a display of outstandingly forward thinking sartorial genius – to join in the Mad Hatters fun!
Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Jeremy Ambache said:
“Wonderful to once again see the great work Wandsworth Community Transport does in combating loneliness and isolation among the elderly and disabled residents of Wandsworth.”
We were delighted that Mrs Guiliana Button, Manuel’s wife chose the incredible hat of WCT Silver Daytripper, Maureen Phillips as the winner, to universal approval.
As well as gorgeous food and entertainment our guests enjoyed a free raffle, with 24 prizes collected by our Chair, Hicky Kingsbury, further to her achieving the funding for this event.
It simply was the best day ever, summed up on the day by one of our wonderful guests, Christine Travers:
“It’s fantastic, I love coming here. Nice atmosphere and food is delicious.”
Community is what it’s all about, at the heart of everything we do here, at Wandsworth Community Transport. From our Silver Daytripper and Road Runner trips, to our Sainsbury’s Wandsworth Shopmobility Service and our Wimbledon Foundation funded Choir.
Thank you to Wandsworth Council for supporting our work with grants which enable us to be here for our shared community.
Summed up by volunteers Richard Brown & Maureen Harding talking about the importance of supporting local events like these:
“We do it because it’s natural for us to want to help and it’s good for the community and it helps us get out and about.”
Huge thank you to our sponsors of this event, without whom none of this would be possible: Age UK Wandsworth for their amazing Age Well Central Fund Grant and our mystery, local corporate donor who was keen to hide their light under a bushel.
Roll on next year… book early to avoid missing out!
